Hydrosalpinx is a reproductive condition in which one or both fallopian tubes become blocked due to the accumulation of fluid. The fallopian tubes normally act as a clear passage for the egg to travel from the ovaries to the uterus and allow the sperm to meet the egg for fertilization. When a hydrosalpinx develops, this fluid-filled blockage prevents normal movement of both sperm and embryo, reducing the chances of natural conception.
In many cases, hydrosalpinx is linked to previous pelvic infections, sexually transmitted diseases, endometriosis, or past abdominal surgeries. The blockage and fluid buildup not only impact natural fertility but can also reduce the success rates of IVF if left untreated.
