Azoospermia means that a man’s ejaculate does not contain sperm. Causes include blockages along thereproductive tract, hormonal problems, ejaculation problems, and problems with testicular structure orfunction. Many causes are treatable and fertility can be restored. Live sperm may be available for use inassisted reproductive technology for other reasons.
About 10% of infertile men and 1% of all men have azoospermia. Imagine a stadium attended by 50,000 menin a match. From about 5,000 of them he suffers from infertility, 7,500 of which his 500 becomeazoospermic!
Some genetic conditions like Klinefelter’s syndrome, treatments like chemotherapy and radiation therapy,recreational drugs like narcotics, anatomical abnormalities like varicocele, lack of bilateral vas deferens,and many others. possible causes are known. Perhaps the most obvious cause is a vasectomy, whichprevents sperm from combining with other fluids in semen. However, in most cases, azoospermia may bedue to factors that are not fully understood, such as: B. Poor testicular development as a geneticcondition, fetus/child or environmental toxin.
You may have no symptoms or be unaware that you have azoospermia until your efforts to conceive areunsuccessful. Other signs and symptoms you encounter may be related to underlying causes such as: B. Ahormonal imbalance or a genetic chromosomal disorder.
Otherwise, you may experience symptoms such as:
Obstructive azoospermia can be treated by reconnecting or reconstructing the tubes or ducts that allow spermflow. This may mean surgery or other procedures. Hormone treatments and medications can also help if theunderlying cause is low hormone production.
Non-obstructive azoospermia may or may not respond to treatment. But there is good news:
Pregnancy with a biological child may be achieved through in vitro fertilization or intracytoplasmic sperminjection.
