The process of ovulation induction involves the use of fertility drugs to stimulate the ovaries to produce and release eggs. The most commonly used drugs for ovulation induction are clomiphene citrate and gonadotropins.
Clomiphene citrate is taken orally and works by blocking the effects of estrogen on the brain. This causes an increase in the production of follicle-stimulating hormone (FSH) and luteinizing hormone (LH), which stimulate the growth and maturation of eggs in the ovaries.
